Sam Raimi’s Next Horror Sequel Confirmed With 2027 Release Date

The first Crawl, which Alexandre Aja directed and served as a producer on with Raimi and Craig Flores, centers on a college student who searches for her father in the middle of a hurricane. They end up getting stuck in the house's crawl space, as the hurricane brings in alligators that threaten both of their lives. Two years ago, a sequel was greenlit by Paramount, and now Variety is reporting that the film is scheduled to be released on July 16, 2027. Raimi, Flores and Aja are all back as producers, alongside executive producers Gregory Levasseur, Kevan Thompson and Zainab Azizi. Aja will once again direct from a script by Jason Harry Pagan, Andrew Deutschman, Levasseur and Aja. Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper were the stars of the first film, but the sequel has cast Mason Gooding and Emily Rudd in the lead roles. Back in 2019, Aja had said that if the team was given the chance to work on another installment, they would introduce brand-new characters instead of bringing back Scodelario and Pepper as Haley and Dave Keller. After the cast for Crawl 2 was announced in August of this year, filming got underway that same month. Neither Gooding nor Rudd is a stranger to the horror genre, with the former having appeared in multiple Scream movies; his other credits include Booksmart, Fall, Ballers and Love, Victor. Rudd, meanwhile, starred in the Fear Street films; more recently, she's been in Netflix's live-action One Piece series and will be in the upcoming thriller Whalefall. More to come...
