Sadie King’s Emmerdale return will explode massive secrets that will absolutely shock you

And it seems like some absolutely whopping secrets – some of the biggest in recent Emmerdale history – will be detonated, sending our jaws crashing to the ground. I was lucky enough to grab some time with TV and film queen Patsy, who describes Sadie as one of her favourite roles of all time. And two decades on from one of soap’s most delicious ever exit sequences, she is still very much recognised as the Dales superbitch. I expressed my amazement that it’s been so long, and Patsy, while nervous at first, confirmed that it felt like she had never been away, mostly due to the welcome and support of the cast and crew, who were as delighted as the rest of us for the next chapter in Sadie’s story. ‘It feels like yesterday, but it was 20 years ago!’ she said in an interview with Metro. ‘And yeah, it’s just brilliant. I’m loving it. It’s very busy, very hectic, lots to do, lots of dialogue to learn but it’s great. She’s back – and more Sadie than ever! (Picture: ITV) ‘There’s a huge shock of why she’s back and how Sadie is now,’ she teased. ‘I can’t give too much away so it’s frustrating because there’s so much I want to tell you, but I can promise a lot of shocks and revelations and twists and turns and betrayals and pleading for forgiveness. It’s a plethora of wonderful, wonderful stories. Everything you want from Sadie King!’ Of course, back in the day, many comparisons were drawn between Sadie and the other notable queen of mean Kim Tate (Claire King). Now both of the divas are sharing the village – and fireworks will follow. ‘We had a scene the other day in the street and that was the first time we ran into each other – and it will not disappoint! We took it old school!’ In fact, it sounds like there will be non-stop chaos and confrontation with Patsy exclaiming, ‘I’ve been slapped to sh*t!’ An Emmerdale legend, back after 20 years! (Picture: PA) That confirms our hopes for many a cat fight. But, of course, Sadie always did give as good as she gets – and Patsy confirmed that her alter-ego hasn’t changed a bit. However, we will also see a more vulnerable side to her at times. ‘She does manoeuvre and pit people against each other in possible romance situations. She tends to want to make one jealous and she is manipulative, definitely. ‘I think it’s fair to say the last 20 years has definitely changed Sadie, but let’s face it, it’s Sadie King. She’s got the same qualities running through her core, and there’s not masses going to change that. ‘We want to find out about the real person because, obviously, that’s really interesting for me to play and for the audience to see where she’s, is in her life. ‘I mean, like I said, it’s 20 years ago. I’m 58 now. I’m nearly 60, and, you know, what does this woman really have and what does she really value? But I think that that’s interesting to explore as a woman and with the things that we go through in life and are going through the change and all of that stuff. Robert may have a different face, but he still has that history with Sadie! (Picture: ITV) The smirk says it all – she was always wicked! (Picture: ITV) ‘And she’s on her own essentially, does she have brothers? Sisters? Father or a mother? She was probably birthed by a Jekyll, she’s so awful. But I think there’s a bittersweet kind of side to her, and it would be nice that maybe that comes through. But she’s still a cow! ”I also found a humorous side to her as well. She’s naughty, she’s deceitful, she’s just delicious and I’m really proud to have been allowed to create this character and have her be so well loved.’ Another interesting part of the whole arc is how familiar faces – or in Robert Sugden’s case, kinda familiar faces given Karl Davies has morphed into Ryan Hawley – will react to Sadie. She certainly has a colourful past with many of the residents from Robert and Charity to Cain and, of course, Jimmy. Producer Laura Shaw promised that all of this would be revisited, addressed and explored, and Patsy is delighted to get the chance to deep dive back into the plotlines she thrived in during her first tenure. The village will be hit by shockwaves! (Picture: ITV) Pondering the characters old and new that she has so far shared scenes with, the actress picked out a few highlights. ‘So basically I started off with doing some stuff with Bradley Riches, he plays Lewis. There’s Robert Sugden and I, mean, we had come into cahoots and back in the day, Sadie had an affair with him, and he was in his teens, which is just awful! ‘Karl who played him back then was just so professional and wonderful, so we kind of reconnect when I come back over some things. And Ryan’s been really funny, and Chris Coghill, he just makes me howl, he’s just so brilliant. ‘I’ve yet to run into Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon – he’s just the funniest person on planet Earth, and I love, love, love Emma Atkins, just so warm. ‘When I came back, I didn’t know how the cast would be after 20 years, and it’s such a family, the pastoral care here is a second to none. You don’t get it on other shows, they just kick you in the arse and then it’s “let’s go home!”‘ But back to the teasers, shall we? I personally want to know about those secrets. Producer Laura certainly isn’t underselling it! Yes, I was pretty chuffed to catch up with Patsy Kensit! (Picture: Metro) ‘Of course, she’s got an agenda. I think what I can say is the reason that Sadie comes back and the secret that she comes back with is going to be absolutely shocking, and whether all is quite as it seems, we shall see as the story progresses, but it’s going to be pretty big and pretty shocking! ‘We’ve definitely tried to bring Sadie back every bit in a dramatic way as how she arrived last time. So I think her arrival will be every bit as amazing and brilliant as the first time around. ‘I think probably the most shocking thing is definitely the reason that brings her back. It’s undoubtedly one of the biggest secrets we’ve ever had within the King family and it’s going to be pretty explosive.’ Laura speaks with such enthusiasm, it’s clear that luring Patsy back is one of her biggest highlights of recent times. She smiled: ‘As you know, I’m a massive fan of the show. God help me, I’ve been here long enough to remember Sadie King the first time around! But for me, I think some of those stories from 20 years ago: the King’s house collapse, Cain going off in the seaplane with the two and a half million dollars, they’re some of the most iconic stories in Emmerdale’s history that I absolutely love. ‘So to be able to pick up on those stories, almost where we left off, and to kind of bring it back into the present and make sure whatever we do now picks up on all that. Just for me, it’s a producer’s dream. It really is.’ Deals of the Day Wuka launches the UK’s first period-proof swimwear for heavy flows Bridgerton fans are rushing to buy these new Netflix-inspired perfumes now £12 off The affordable summer wardrobe update you'll wear from rooftop drinks to beach holidays The £7.99 lip balm beauty fans love for glossy, hydrated lips just dropped four new shades This Keskine hydrogel mask could fix your summer skin The same as it is for the rest of us fans.
