If you're a fan of Ryobi power tools, there's a good chance you use multiple tools across both its 18V ONE+ and 40V battery platforms. Do you ever wish you had a single charger that could recharge both systems? Thankfully, earlier this year, Ryobi finally answered users' calls, and the new dual-platform hyper charger is finally available. See, in my garage I have countless 18V ONE+ battery packs to power my drill, impact wrench, driver, brad nailer, fans, lights, and several other tools. Then, I have four 40V battery packs for my leaf blower and lawn mower. As a result, I've always needed two chargers on my workbench, but that's finally changing. Ryobi actually released its first and only dual charger back in 2020, and it's occasionally available at Home Depot. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it in stock for more than two years. If you're in a similar boat, here's what you need to know about the newer, faster model that just came out. Ryobi's new 18V/40V Dual Platform Hyper Charger Save space with one charger for either battery size No one wants to waste space in the garage with two chargers, but for whatever reason, Ryobi doesn't seem to understand that we want a combo charger. The original dual charger (P137) was the first of its kind, sold out quickly, and rarely received additional stock. It's also incredibly slow, which isn't ideal for those trying to finish a project. That's why you'll absolutely love the all-new Ryobi Dual Platform Hyper Charger (PCG007) for only $99. Announced earlier this year, it eventually started hitting shelves at Home Depot in May, but inventory still seems a bit limited. There's currently only one available at my local store, and your mileage may vary. The new ONE+ 18V/40V Dual Platform Hyper Charger puts both systems into one package, making it easier than ever to keep your batteries charged and ready to go. You can throw any 18V battery on and let it do its thing, then pop it out and slide in a 40V. No buttons to tap, switches to flip, it all happens automatically and intelligently—safely charging the specific battery inserted to the correct levels. Then, as the "hyper" in the name suggests, this new charger is extremely fast. According to Ryobi, it'll refill a 4Ah EDGE battery in under 15 minutes, which is about 6x faster than a regular charger that comes bundled with most tools. Keep in mind that the new EDGE batteries charge a bit faster than the regular or HP models most of us own. A large 8Ah HP battery takes around 35–40 minutes to charge, which is pretty quick. Those fast speeds also apply to any 40V battery as well, and Ryobi claims it'll recharge a 6Ah 40V in about an hour, which is 4x faster than base models, and smaller batteries even quicker. Credit: Ryobi Ryobi is using a new active cooling technology to reach these fast-charging speeds, which it says makes it the ultimate charger for any DIYer and delivers unrivaled speed, efficiency, and versatility. That said, it's not the perfect design, but you'll certainly love the speed. Again, the new 18V/40V Dual Hyper Charger is available now, and you'll want to grab one at the link below. Ryobi ONE+ 18V/40V Dual Platform Hyper Charger Charge any Ryobi 18V or 40V battery with the same charger and buy Ryobi's all-new ONE+ 18V/40V Dual Platform Hyper Charger. It's fast, easy, and convenient. It only charges one battery at a time The older model lets you charge both simultaneously Credit: Ryobi Unfortunately, there is one little downside to the all-new dual hyper charger. It can only charge one battery at a time, either an 18V or a 40V battery. The design overlaps a bit, so you won't be able to put both battery styles on the charger at the same time. This is likely due to the increased heat while rapid charging, not to mention the compact design of this new charger. For what it's worth, the old Ryobi dual charger (P137) from 2020 could charge both battery packs simultaneously, as it had a side-by-side design. As mentioned earlier, it's a lot slower than this new model, not to mention pretty hard to find. And while that is a downside, it probably won't be too big a concern for most of us. I rarely need to recharge both battery platforms at the same time, as 18V powers all my tools and 40V powers my outdoor lawn care equipment. Still, it's something to keep in mind for those interested. Should you buy the dual platform hyper charger? If you're like me and own tons of tools across Ryobi's two most popular battery platforms, this is a no-brainer. $99 gets me a faster charger than the ones I currently use and saves space on top of my toolbox. It's a win-win. Just remember that it can only charge one at a time, then grab one the next time it's on sale.
