PERIASAMY Motorists have urged the Coimbatore Corporation to improve the road layout at the exit of Terminal II of the Ukkadam Bus Stand, citing accident risk and traffic congestion. The exit point, located on Sungam Bypass Road under the Ukkadam flyover, is likely to witness increased traffic once Terminal-2 becomes operational. Buses bound for Palani, Pollachi, Udumalpet, and Palakkad are expected to operate from the new terminal.Currently, buses exiting Terminal-2 have to join the Sungam Bypass Road, where they encounter vehicles proceeding towards Sungam. The flyover ramp at the junction restricts visibility, creating a potential blind spot for buses and other road users, commuters said.G. Manuneethi, a retired divisional engineer in the Road Safety Wing of the State Highways Department, said the exit needed to be redesigned to ensure safer and smoother movement.“The exit is at a junction-like location, and the slope makes the movement of buses uneven. We had proposed a roundabout at the location to improve traffic flow and safety,” he said.Road users urged the authorities to improve the stretch and provide adequate visibility before Terminal-2 becomes fully operational. They cautioned that the increased movement of buses could lead to congestion and make traffic regulation difficult if the junction was not addressed.A senior Corporation official said the required road improvement works would be taken up simultaneously with the Terminal-2 works and completed along with the project. Terminal-2 is expected to be completed in about two months, the official said. Published - September 04, 2026 06:31 pm IST
