Rachel Chinouriri Announces New Album I think I spoke too soon: Hear “One song away from crying”

A couple years ago, Rachel Chinouriri released her tour de force debut album What A Devastating Turn Of Events. Since then, she's toured with Sabrina Carpenter and Florence + The Machine, released the Little House EP, appeared on Pinkpantheress' remix album Fancy Some More?, and joined the lineup for Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields. Last night, she announced her next album. I think I spoke too soon is out Oct. 16 and was announced with the lead single "One song away from crying."In an Instagram post, Chinouriri shared that the new song is "an account of my life between the ages of 22 and 27, and a reflection on my journey towards becoming the woman I am so far." That's no small feat. "I talk about many things, figuring out my sobriety, the transformation of my inner and outer worlds, femininity, relationships and so much more," she continued. "One song away from crying" is a sequined anthem for looking fabulous and feeling the exact opposite. The silvery synth pop addresses those moments when you hit the bar or club and immediately regret it. You might look the part, but the sadness overrides the photo op fun. "Blue, trying to see a silver lining It’s blue," she sings at the beginning over a subdued synth-pop beat. '"This drink… this loo Mirror wall… Disco ball I’ve never looked better and I’ve never felt worse." She's in a whispery, high register. Her voice tiptoes around as if trying to avoid emotional landmines hidden on the dance floor. The production slowly blossoms out — a little funk guitar here and more glimmering '80s synth bleeps there. It sounds like a disco ball trying not to shrink into itself.
