R&B legend reveals heartbreaking cancer diagnosis as she battles leukaemia aged just 44

A MUSIC legend has revealed her heartbreaking cancer diagnosis and battle with leukaemia aged just 44. The American-born songstress, best-known for her 2002 hit Don’t Mess With My Man, is currently undergoing treatment and told how the diagnosis had “helped me put a lot of things in perspective”. The Laundromat hitmaker, who was previously engaged to fellow music star Lil Wayne, told host Brian Freeman: “Well, first of all, I was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year, and I’m so grateful to God. Leukaemia is a cancer that leads to the body making too many abnormal white blood cells and means the body is less likely to be able to defend itself against infection. These blood cells are not fully developed and are called leukaemia cells. Most read in Showbiz Nivea, whose full name is Nivea B Hamilton, added: “I live in gratitude like religiously, and I’m just grateful for everything, like I’m doing things I wanna do, I’m definitely back into my music, and I’m going to school for audio engineering. “I’ve always wanted to learn how to engineer and mixing engineer in particular, but in general, just doing all the things, honey, loving on my children, and just being grateful and taking every opportunity that comes my way”.
