Since its 2018 founding, Quince’s enormous catalog and affordable prices have captured national attention, leading many a shopper to wonder whether the brand was too good to be true. The shopping team at AD set out for an answer by putting Quince’s full lineup to the test. Ultimately, we found 17 favorite items. The direct-to-consumer retailer’s bamboo sheets are among our favorite sets on the market, and its linen sheets get top marks for that bedding category. Quince’s curtains and towels, too, have made us fans, and its velvet sectional received high praise from our audience development manager.Given the brand’s well-established pattern of creating buy-worthy textiles and furniture, I was excited to test its newest fall bedding collection. As a quilt connoisseur, I opted to start with the European Linen Cotton Stitch Quilt Set—with shams, obviously. In light of the thermostat-swinging nature of the fall weather, I hoped the quilt set could function as a trans-seasonal solution and give my room a noticeable (and needed) refresh.Quince European Linen Cotton Stitch Quilt SetSpecsFirst ImpressionsMy ExperienceThe VerdictSpecsFirst ImpressionsQuilts are often heavy, so I was surprised by how lightweight the package felt before I even unboxed it. As it turns out, the quilt is light by design, constructed from a combination of linen and cotton, with cotton fill that weighs just 200 grams per square meter (gsm)—or about the same as a flannel shirt by the square meter. I was relieved by its lack of heft, as my New York apartment’s heat runs on radiators that I can’t control, and is, as a result, basically blazing hot at all times. Upon situating the quilt on my bed, I immediately searched the pick-stitching for loose threads. Devastatingly, I found some—a few pulled threads around the border—though not so exaggerated that I’d need to make my bed with cautionMy ExperienceThe quilt set is framed by jade lamps and maroon shades to give surrounding color. Photo: Julia HarrisonMy experience with this quilt set was, in a word, peaceful. The best quilts offer a little warmth, a little weight, and you can comfortably pull them up and over you without struggling or yanking. All of that is possible with this Quince style. I like sleeping totally wrapped in this quilt. Because of the aforementioned radiator situation, it would be unbearably hot if I tried pairing this with a comforter, so I had only a flat sheet between myself and the quilt, which I found to be the perfect pairing. Its low-loft, pick-stitch construction and weight made it extremely easy to create a crisp bedscape. Its texture also disguises sheet wrinkles and lays super flat without much effort at all. I especially appreciate this quality in the shams, since my pillows usually look wrinkled and misshapen. And I do recommend opting for the bundle with the shams, which keep things looking put-together.After a spin through the laundry, I noticed no differences in the quilt’s soft feel. It came out of the dryer wrinkle-free, without any hint of being frayed or fried. And that’s saying something, as I battle-tested this quilt in a New York laundromat where it endured high heat and no option for a gentle cycle. The VerdictAt $190 for a total bed refresh, this high-quality set is a nice buy. I love how it lays, and believe it’ll be a big win for anyone who hates making their bed. The quilt set makes the center of my room look polished, but not stuffy. It skews a bit casual for my maximal taste, but I love the warm ivory option for a great guest-room spread, where I keep things more uniform and less lavish. Ultimately, the weight, the feel, and the price point make it one of the most solid quilt-set choices I’ve come across in my very diligent searching.
