Pulivendula mega water project works gather pace with ₹280 crore funding

The mega water grid project works underway in Pulivendula constituency have gained momentum following the recent allocation of around ₹280 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Amarajeevi Jaladhara schemes. As of now, 96% of the works valued at approximately ₹426 crore have been completed.The project made no substantial progress during the YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) tenure, except for the partial laying of pipelines and partial civil works.Considering the critical nature of the project for the people of the constituency, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan secured the fund allocation, and works have since been progressing at a brisk pace, according to an official release. He is monitoring the project.The Pulivendula mega water grid project was launched under the JJM with an estimated cost of ₹480 crore to meet the drinking water needs of 5.50 lakh people in seven mandals.Adequate attention was not paid to the project during the YSRCP’s tenure, despite the availability of sufficient funds from the Central government.The coalition government took up the project on a priority basis.As the project made the desired progress, water is about to be supplied to 24 habitations in Lingala mandal.Restoration of the intake well, a key component of the project, has been completed, and 65 MLD water treatment plants have been made operational. Of the 1,111 km pipeline proposed, it has been laid in 1,106 km and the construction of overhead tanks and ground-level reservoirs has reached the final stages.
