Prosecution closes investigations into unofficial AI-generated Messi and Salah GEM video

Grand Egyptian Museum The Haram Prosecution Office on Tuesday has moved to close investigations into the creation of an AI-generated Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah video at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), and to dismiss any suspicion of a crime against the video’s author, graphic designer Abdel-Rahman Khaled. The case dates back to a report filed by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities denying any connection to the video, which had been widely circulated on social media platforms – to much confusion. This led to the arrest of the designer at his residence in Cairo. Khaled faced accusations of publishing unauthorized visual content infringing on intellectual property rights. The prosecution’s decision to close the case came after technical examinations and investigations revealed “the absence of criminal intent on the part of the accused, and that the video did not cause any material or moral harm to official bodies or public figures.” The decision indicated that the work was simply an example of a hobbyist showcasing digital skills without any financial gain.
