OneSpan debuts DigipassONE platform to modernize bank authentication

OneSpan debuts DigipassONE platform to modernize bank authentication Electronic signature and authentication cybersecurity company OneSpan Inc. today launched DigipassONE, a unified platform that pulls its authentication, transaction security, in-app protection, analytics and digital credential products together under a single architecture. The company is pitching the platform at financial institutions that need to modernize authentication without ripping out what they already have. Most banks support several authentication methods at once and adopt new ones gradually. DigipassONE is meant to let them do that through shared platform services rather than a single technology swap. The platform ties together authentication tools OneSpan already sells. Those include one-time passcodes, FIDO2, the Digipass line and Cronto transaction signing, which OneSpan previously sold as separate products. It runs on-premises or in the cloud, and customers can use it with OneSpan’s hardware tokens or in software. Passkeys and digital credentials are supported too, which OneSpan sees as the route customers take as they move off older authentication toward FIDO2 passwordless logins. OneSpan has organized the platform around four areas. It’s designed to let institutions modernize without disruption, strengthen security through high-assurance authentication and transaction signing, simplify administration and reporting across methods and expand the platform as customer and regulatory requirements change. Chief Technology Officer Ashish Jain said authentication “isn’t evolving in a straight line” and that banks will keep running several authentication technologies at once for years. He framed DigipassONE as a bet on gradual modernization, describing it as “a practical path to adopt what’s next without abandoning what already works.” Regulation in Europe is part of the pitch. OneSpan cited the European Digital Identity Wallet rollout, which targets 80% citizen adoption by 2030, and the coming PSD3 payments rules as reasons banks are looking for authentication platforms that can keep up. The company recently released an early-access version of a digital credentials product that lets organizations issue and verify credentials inside authentication and transaction workflows, which it framed as a foundation for the broader platform. OneSpan said more than 60% of the world’s 100 largest banks use its authentication technology and it holds an Overall Leader ranking in KuppingerCole Analysts AG’s Leadership Compass for passwordless authentication. The DigipassONE launch is the first step in a wider platform strategy built on more than 30 years in the authentication market. Guillaume Teixeron, senior analyst at KuppingerCole, said authentication modernization “is not a rip-and-replace exercise” and that banks will run hardware tokens, mobile authenticators and passkeys side by side for years, making the ability to manage that coexistence the real differentiator.
