Power in democracy comes from people's mandate, not anarchy: Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday accused forces seeking a change of power in India along the lines of Bangladesh of attempting to create instability under the guise of electoral reforms and demands for justice.Emphasising that democratic power comes from the people’s mandate, not through agitation and anarchy, the chief minister alleged that attempts were being made to use young people to fuel instability rather than channel their energy towards nation-building."In a democracy, power comes through the people’s mandate, not through anarchy. Attempts are being made to put the tools of anarchy in the hands of young people instead of the torch of nation-building," Adityanath said.He asserted that India’s democratic institutions were rooted in public trust and would withstand attempts to destabilise the country. "India's democracy is a mighty banyan tree rooted in public trust. No storm of conspiracies can shake Indian democracy," he said.Targeting those allegedly attempting to mobilise people around electoral reforms and the slogan of justice, Adityanath claimed that the ultimate objective was to seize power by pushing the country towards disorder. "The youth of the country are meant to shape India’s future, not to satisfy anyone’s hunger for power," he said.Invoking the mythological characters Marich and Kalanemi, whom he used as metaphors for deception, the chief minister said people had recognised such political forces and kept them away from power."The people have identified the Marichs and Kalanemis of politics and kept them away from power," he said.Adityanath maintained that the country would not allow what he described as a political conspiracy to succeed, reiterating that political power must be secured through the democratic process and the people’s mandate.- Ends
