Police locate driver after Florence hit-and-run leaves cyclist in critical condition

By Michaela Yielding | myielding@al.comA hit-and-run crash has left a cyclist in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle near Dutch Bros Coffee in Florence late Friday night. According to the Florence police, surveillance video showed the driver striking the cyclist while traveling on Cloverdale Road around 10:54 p.m. After striking the cyclist, the vehicle continued traveling southbound on Cloverdale Road. Police have not identified the victim or given a condition report. Before locating the suspect, officials asked the community for help in finding a vehicle that appeared to be a silver or gray crossover type vehicle with front-end damage, particularly to the windshield. The driver has since been located and taken into custody, police said. The cyclist is in critical condition and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
