Pokémon Officially Unveils New Eeveelution Release Landing October 2026

Eevee and its various Eeveelutions rank among the most popular Pokémon in franchise history, which makes it a little difficult to believe just how long it's been since we saw an official new variant. The last Eeveelution introduced was Sylveon, which debuted with Generation 6 in 2013, meaning the fan-favorite family has now gone more than a decade without a new member. Pokémon currently has 18 elemental types, while Eevee has evolutions for only eight of them, leaving another 10 types without their own Eeveelution and plenty of room for speculation among fans, of which there's been no shortage. There's been heated debate as to what new form Eevee should see among the unused types, with Ghost-type, Poison, Dragon, and Steel ranking among the top requested. The upcoming Pokémon Winds & Waves could be the perfect opportunity to finally change that, with the upcoming Gen 10 games built around windswept islands and Pokémon adapted to unique natural ecosystems, making a Flying-type Eeveelution an especially natural fit for the new region. After 13 years without a new evolution, the timing feels better than ever, though we'll likely have to wait and see when the game launches next year. That said, there's a brand-new Eeveelution-based release for gamers looking to get better acquainted with the existing forms, and it officially arrives this October. Thanks to a brand-new set of playable Pokémon in Pokémon Unite, fan-favorites Flareon and Jolteon are officially being added to the lineup in October this year. The two classic Eeveelutions were announced alongside Morpeko and Toxtricity following the Pokémon Unite competition at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships earlier this year, giving players four new fighters to look forward to between September and October. Morpeko was the first of the group to arrive on September 4, joining Unite as a Speedster capable of switching between Full Belly Mode and Hangry Mode. Toxtricity arrives in just a few days on September 24 as a ranged Attacker specializing in Electric- and Poison-based skills. Jolteon and Flareon are then scheduled to arrive sometime in October, although exact release dates have not yet been announced. Jolteon is expected to fill the Speedster role, while Flareon will join the roster as an All-Rounder. Jolteon and Flareon's return will be especially exciting for Eevee fans, as Unite already features Sylveon, Espeon, Glaceon, Leafeon, Umbreon, and, most recently, Vaporeon, meaning Jolteon and Flareon will finally complete the full lineup of existing Eeveelutions. It also gives both Gen I Pokémon a rare chance to take center stage in a modern Pokémon spinoff. While the two have made appearances in mainline games and have popped up occasionally in anime, neither has received the kind of dedicated spotlight that several of Eevee's newer evolutions have enjoyed in recent years. Originally released in 2021, Pokémon Unite is a "free-to-start" multiplayer MOBA game built around five-on-five team battles. Players defeat wild and opposing Pokémon to collect Aeos energy, then score that energy in the opposing team's goal zones, with the team holding the highest score at the end winning the match. The game is available on Nintendo Switch and mobile with cross-platform play, and despite mixed reviews, is well worth checking out if you're a longtime Pokémon fan looking for a new experience.
