The next major PlayStation 5 update, which is currently in beta, will finally give us a better understanding of active users, similar to what SteamDB provides on its site. In a new video from Mystic, and as shared on social media by Radec, a new widget within the Welcome Hub will allow players to see the Top 10 most-played games in their country or the titles that are currently "surging" in popularity, depending on what configuration you choose. Via the widget, Overwatch 2 shows a 255 percent surge in matches on the heels of its latest update. Meanwhile, Apex Legends had 1.72 million players this week in the U.S. alone. Also, unlike SteamDB, this isn't total users at a given hour, but rather across the entire week. Anyone who logged onto the game within the seven-day timeframe will be included in the figure. That means something like Highguard, which exploded on Day 1, would chart for the week. Given how popular year-over-year many of these titles are, the Top 10 isn't likely to change much. What will be far more interesting is the Trending widget, as it'll give a look into what players are jumping into in droves, with specific tidbits, like modes. Though a more limited dataset than SteamDB, it is fascinating to see PlayStation hopping on the trend of showcasing player counts, even if it is on a weekly basis and only limited to a player's specific country. SteamDB has been one of the most revolutionary tools in modern gaming, as it gives analysts and players a better idea of how certain games are performing down to the very minute.
