Plane cabin collapses on passengers during emergency landing

A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 suffered a serious malfunction moments after taking off from Iran’s Mashhad airport yesterday. The packed passenger plane set off from Iran’s second city for Kermanshah around 864 miles northeast, but the routine journey quickly turned into every flyer’s worst nightmare. Suddenly, the landing gear suffered a malfunction as it is thought to have burst or detached during the takeoff. Passengers held on to the seats as the plane shook violently seconds before the interior ceiling caved in. Then the engine is said to have suffered damage, although the exact details are yet to be confirmed. Footage from the cabin shows how the aircraft shakes violently as passengers hold onto the seats. Then with a loud bang, part of the indoor ceiling collapses, with chunks of debris hanging down while horrified passengers scream and pray for their lives. At least one passenger managed to film the horror unfold as the plane trundles on for the emergency return to Mashhad. Suddenly, the interior fittings collapsed on terrified passengers, who were screaming, crying and praying. The footage suggests the plane was damaged in its interior fittings, which hold equipment and the overhead luggage bins. Upon landing, the plane was met by emergency services and medics while the runway at Mashhad airport was briefly locked down. Despite the dramatic seconds, no one is believed to have been injured in the incident. All passengers were able to walk out of the plane and were booked on a later flight, according to Travel Tomorrow, citing Hassan Jafari, the airline’s spokesperson. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fault, but no findings have been released yet. The Iran war started by the US, and sanctions against the regime have hampered the country’s civil aviation. While exporting aircraft parts to Iran is not specifically banned, the sweeping sanctions on other industries have had a knock-on effect. Donald Trump’s administration has sanctioned dozens of Iranian airlines as part of sweeping economic measures aimed at paralysing the regime. Aviation accidents are common in Iran even before the escalation of the war, which has seen military aircraft take the brunt. On August 25, another Sepehran Airlines flight endured an emergency when the aircraft’s nose landing gear collapsed on arrival from Tehran to Mashhad.
