Paul Feig Is Selling His Very Colorful Lenox Hill One-Bedroom

Paul Feig is selling his colorful Upper East Side pied-à-terre. Photo-Illustration: Curbed; Photos: Getty Images, Google Maps Most buyers close on a property with a checklist of all the things they want to change before moving in, but director Paul Feig was so delighted by the colorful, playful décor of the Upper East Side condo he bought in 2017 that he insisted on keeping everything just as it was, including the furniture. “I have very eclectic taste and I really love bright things,” Feig told Architectural Digest the following year. “Literally, I couldn’t find one thing wrong with the place, it was so perfect.” Now, the apartment is back on the market — as cheerfully over the top as ever in the listing photos — with Compass brokers Haley Venn and Carl Gambino, who declined to comment. Photo: DD Reps The apartment, a one-bedroom just under 1,000 square feet, is on the 12th floor of a prewar Art Deco condo at 61st and Madison. Feig told AD he used it when visiting and working in the city. While modestly sized, it has a number of grand elements, including lofty ceilings (high enough to accommodate a pink-and-gold chandelier in the kitchen) and a 400-square-foot terrace that stretches across the full length of the apartment and reads more penthouse than one-bedroom pied-à-terre. The interiors, done by designer Heidi James of Studio LXIV, include textured wallpaper by Elizabeth Dow, bespoke millwork, a custom built-in banquette, and green chinoiserie wallpaper by Gracie Studio. The furniture is also quite high end, which surprised Feig. “That big pink couch, I thought, ‘Oh, maybe that’s from Hot Topic,’” he told AD. “And then, as we were going through the apartment, we realized everything in it is the highest possible quality. That couch is an antique from France.” Feig, who directed Bridesmaids and more recently The Housemaid, and his producer wife, Laurie, paid $2.95 million for the apartment in 2017, according to city records, buying under an LLC, Pink House. They are asking only a smidge more now, $2.99 million. The listing doesn’t say anything about the furniture being included, but the Feigs may be willing to part with it. The couple seems to enjoy embracing varied design aesthetics depending on where they live — in 2012, Feig had a Murray Hill pied-à-terre whose aesthetic he described to New York as being “part British, part ’70s bordello,” full of browns with a French déco bar. A few years ago, the Feigs purchased a 1940s Mediterranean-style house in Palm Springs — they briefly listed this apartment then but pulled it from the market after a few months. The Palm Springs compound is, at least in listing photos, done in a kind of old-California glamour, with richly colored polished woods, terra-cotta floors, and deep-red accents. Not exactly the kind of place you’d imagine filling with peppy chandeliers and hot-pink couches.
