Palestine welcomes Brics declaration calling for two-state solution

Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs and expatriates has welcomed the Brics declaration calling for a two-state solution to the Palestine issue. In a statement, the ministry said it particularly welcomed the declaration's rejection of attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian people from their land, including Jerusalem and its call for an end to the Israeli occupation. The ministry welcomed "its reaffirmation of the two-state solution; its support for the full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations; and its support for an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital". It also welcomed the declaration's support for UNRWA and its mandate, as well as its call to protect holy sites and ensure access to them in Jerusalem, protect the Palestinian people, and guarantee unhindered humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The ministry praised these positions as consistent with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, stressing the need to translate them into practical and concrete steps.
