Now, new details about this secret ChatGPT device have leaked, giving us a clue that it may look similar to a small doughnut.As per a report from Bloomberg, the OpenAI smart speaker will be roughly the size of a hockey puck, used in Ice Hockey. It will have the shape of a doughnut and be designed to be easy to carry around the home with one hand.Do note that the speaker is being designed by former Apple designer Jony Ive. OpenAI is currently facing a lawsuit from Apple for allegedly stealing trade secrets. Though the AI startup denies all claims.Movable parts, cameras and moreBut to differentiate it from regular smart speakers, OpenAI is reportedly going to pack in some movable parts and lights, giving you a more interactive experience. While it will likely miss out on a display, you can expect a camera system and other sensors so that the device can perceive its surroundings and feed visual information into the AI.As per the report, the speaker will include speaker grills and microphones for taking commands and holding conversations, while lights will indicate when it is listening. The device is expected to be battery-powered, which will make it easier to carry from one room to the other.OpenAI wants it to be your companion at home OpenAI expects users to rely on the device throughout the day. It is intended to work in a way similar to ChatGPT’s voice mode on smartphones, but with more advanced models for more humanlike interactivity.The company also wants the device to learn more about a user over time so it can tailor conversations and behave more like a personal AI companion. The product is being designed to work in different positions, including while being held in the hand or placed on a nightstand or kitchen counter.The smart speaker is seen internally as a way for OpenAI to enter hardware with fewer privacy concerns than other always-on AI devices such as smart glasses. Over the longer term, the company plans to build a family of devices and eventually offer products that could replace today’s smartphones.The hardware has been designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the studio founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive. Like some of Ive’s earlier products, the new device is expected to have a premium appearance and use high-quality metal.OpenAI speaker expected price and launchThe report adds that OpenAI may price the smart speaker at $300 (roughly Rs 28,000) in the US. The AI startup is expected to launch the device in 2027.Do note that this will not be the first OpenAI-branded device to hit the market.
