Olivia Colman & Alexander Skarsgård React to Those Steamy Wicker Memes

Yes, Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård Have Seen Your Wicker Memes—Here’s What They ThinkOlivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård are well aware of the wickerly good memes. The Wicker stars revealed that they’ve been keeping up with online conversation surrounding their upcoming film, in which Skarsgård stars as the sexy Wicker Husband, woven especially for Colman’s Fisherwoman, who experiences some push back from the neighbors, including costar Elizabeth Debicki. And as soon as the film’s trailer was released in June, the memes came pouring out of the proverbial basket. “We have a pretty great group chat that includes all of the villagers and us,” Debicki shared in an exclusive interview with E! News alongside Colman and Skarsgård. “I got sent from a friend of mine an actual IKEA ad featuring our film to sell like a bench or something.” “I sent it to our group chat because I was like, ‘Guys, we’ve made it. We're at IKEA,'” she laughed. “It was like an IKEA Australia commercial.”As Skarsgård recalled, the ad featured a wicker bench with the phrase, “Husband material,” which Colman raved “was very cool.” “That was fun for us,” Debicki added. “People are so hilarious and they made me laugh so much.”Courtesy of Black BearBut it’s not just the memes that have turned the cast into basket cases, as Skarsgård also revealed they were shown the film’s signature popcorn bucket, shaped like the chiseled body of the Wicker Husband, musing, “So when you go see the movie, you can eat popcorn out of Wicker Husband's torso.” Overall, the entire cast—which also includes Peter Dinklage—has been shocked by the woven-derful response to Wicker. “I’ve never had such a reaction from a trailer,” Colman admitted to E!. “Friends and family—and I don't know how people find it, but then I'm an idiot about social media—but everyone's gone. ‘I can't wait to see this. Oh my god, so exciting.’” The Oscar winner added, “It’s lovely, everyone has really taken to it.”Courtesy of Black BearTaking on the role of the Wicker Husband was also a surprising experience for Skarsgård, who revealed that after almost a year of only seeing his wicker costume through photos, he finally got to put it on two weeks before filming. “It was amazing,” the Emmy winner marveled, “and it also helped me find the character, because up until that point, the Wicker Husband had only kind of existed in my head.” “But to put it on and to feel the weight of it, and to kind of see how that informed the way I move,” Skarsgård shared, “it was tremendously informative.” Wicker opens in theaters Oct. 23.
