Ocarina Of Time Remake Confirms Once And For All That ReDead Are Corpses

Sign in to your TheGamer account The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has confirmed whether or not ReDead are actually corpses, after Super Smash Bros. turned it into a fierce debate. As anyone who has played Majora’s Mask can attest to, The Legend of Zelda can have some pretty strong horror chops when it wants to. Ocarina of Time is a great example of this, as its chilling ReDead enemies are infamous for being far creepier than anything else Link runs into during his quest, and arguably more than in any other game. There are plenty of things that people were excited to see in the Ocarina of Time remake, but the ReDead were easily near the top of that list since everyone wanted to know whether Nintendo would make them as faithfully terrifying as before. Now that the game is out, we know that’s definitely the case, and that a misconception started by Smash Bros. is incorrect. No, ReDead Aren’t “Clay Monsters” Like Smash Claims Ocarina Of Time’s Remake Has Settled The Score Over on Twitter, maliceguardian started a since-deleted thread about what the ReDead actually are. While most would say they’re simply zombies or mummies, maliceguardian pointed to the remake’s design for them (particularly the mask) as proof that they’re “clay golems shaped like humans”. If you’re confused about how that theory came about, it’s actually the fault of Super Smash Bros. and its trophies. In Melee, the ReDead trophy describes them as “just magic animated into hideous humanoid shapes”, while both the NTSC and Pal versions of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS say they are “clay monsters fashioned in the shape of humans”. These trophies have caused many debates about whether ReDead are corpses, despite mainline Zelda games making it quite clear. After maliceguardian shared their thoughts on the matter, Twitter user VibeSharer put an end to the debate by pointing out that the Ocarina of Time remake’s Hall of Foes explicitly calls them “walking corpses with masks on their face”. As if that wasn’t concrete proof since it’s coming from the most recent Zelda game they appear in, AlTurkiei showed that you can even see their eyes behind the mask this time around. I’m a little surprised that this was ever a debate, since Smash trophies aren’t exactly an encyclopedia of Nintendo canon and have been known to make mistakes in the past. At least we can finally put this long-standing misconception to rest and go back to being terrified of the ReDead instead of trying to explain them.
