While last year was a low point for the studio, it has improved this year, with several major successes, including the horror sensation Obsession and Other Mommy. Now, Blumhouse is looking ahead to a mix of original content and opportunities to build a franchise. This includes adapting comic series into movies, and now the studio's reputation is paying off in a major way. In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, comic book creator James Tynion IV and his production company, Tiny Onion, have signed a first-look deal with Blumhouse, led by Jason Blum and James Wan. One of the adaptations in the works is the creator's bestselling comic book, Exquisite Corpses. Previously, Deadline reported the development this past January, with plans to create a franchise spanning live-action movies and animation. This isn't the first time Tynion and Blumhouse will work together to adapt one of his comics. Last year, it was confirmed that Something is Killing the Children was also being adapted and would go into production next year. At the recent NYCC, it was announced that Craig Zobel would be the director. Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order. The good relationship on that project led to the recent Blumhouse deal and the development of Exquisite Corpses. Blum shared a statement on the partnership with Tynion. "James has been a valued partner on Something Is Killing The Children, which is why we wanted to expand our relationship. He has great storytelling instincts with a passion for the horror genre. As we look to develop more IP, this felt like a great fit, and we're happy to take the next step with him and Tiny Onion." Tynion concurred with the statement, saying, "From the moment I first stepped into the Blumhouse offices, it felt like coming home. Every person in that building, and every filmmaker on their roster is dedicated to making great horror, and I'm thrilled to stand by their side and help bring these terrifying stories to life." Exquisite Corpses is a horror comic book series that launched in May 2025 and has 13 issues spread across three volumes. It has a battle royale premise: every five years on Halloween, wealthy families play a game in which the 12 deadliest people fight to survive and be the lone killer standing. Critics praised the comic book, which spawned three spinoffs and sequels. The series also became a hit, selling over one million copies under Image Comics. Michael Walsh also co-created, co-wrote, and designed the comic. It's in early development, so there are no filming or casting updates yet. Meanwhile, Blumhouse has a packed 2027 release schedule, including River, The Exorcist: Martyrs, and Anything but Ghosts.
