Nvidia boss Jensen Huang sparked intelligence fears after he formed a 'close relationship' with a glamorous female spy who the CIA believed was smuggling AI microchips to China, reports say. The AI chief, 63, reportedly alarmed the White House and US intelligence circles when it was revealed that he had formed a relationship with Chinese business executive and suspected spy Alice Huang. As the CEO of tech firm Megaspeed, Ms Huang, of no relation to the Nvidia boss, is believed to have acted as an intermediary funneling banned AI chips to China, according to The New York Times. The efforts allegedly violated US policies preventing Nvidia's advanced AI chips from reaching Beijing, with the company playing a central role in America's race to control the artificial intelligence industry. Sources told the Times that the relationship only became known when an investigation was launched into Ms Huang's alleged espionage for China, and intelligence circles discovered a US citizen was 'in contact' with her. When top officials requested to learn the name of the US citizen, they were stunned to learn that it was Jensen Huang, one of the richest and most powerful men in the world. It is unclear when the relationship began or when it was uncovered, however, President Trump was reportedly briefed on the intelligence findings roughly one year ago, the Times reported.Trump, who has often spoken of the vital need to win the AI race over China, chose not to act on the information related to Huang. With Trump embracing Silicon Valley and technology executives in his second term, Huang has found his way into the president's inner circle at times, often invited to the White House with other business titans. Huang has successfully lobbied the Trump administration to loosen regulations on AI technology and restrictions on the sales of Nvidia chips around the world. In June, Huang revealed to The Associated Press that Trump often called him late at night to discuss AI, jobs, manufacturing and national security. It was also revealed earlier this month that Trump bought as much as $1.6 million in Nvidia stock and sold over $1 million of the stock in August, and Trump has often placed Huang next to himself at state dinners in his second term. But according to The New York Times, Huang's proximity to the president escalated at the same time that his 'close relationship' with Ms Huang was attracting the attention of US intelligence.A probe into the Megaspeed CEO's ties to Beijing determined that she was gathering intelligence for China and diverting Nvidia chips into the country. Sources told the Times that while some top American business leaders receive defense briefings if they are targeted by foreign intelligence services, Mr Huang has not received these briefings from the US. When Trump was briefed over the claims last year, officials said they did not believe the Nvidia boss knew that Ms Huang was gathering information for Beijing. Although it is unclear when the relationship is believed to have begun, in June 2024 the pair were seen together at a bar in Taipei following a local technology trade show. Huang, in a black leather jacket, was seen sipping whiskey with other executives in the dark bar, as Ms Huang sat next to him. The pictures were shared to LinkedIn at the time by the company NetThunder.A year later in May 2025, the pair were again seen leaving a restaurant together in Taipei, following a business dinner with AI suppliers. According to the Times, she waited behind for Huang as he spoke to journalists. Nvidia said in response to the allegations that Megaspeed was like many of its regional partners, and that an internal investigation previously debunked claims it was smuggling chips into China. The spokesman added that Nvidia is 'confident that if the U.S. government believes that any person is a threat to American industry, it would let us know.'Megaspeed also said in a statement that its 'current leadership' was taking the matter 'extremely seriously and is committed to getting to the facts behind these allegations.'The company added that 'outside counsel has been retained to conduct a thorough internal investigation and has notified the U.S. government that we are fully committed to cooperating.'The Daily Mail has contacted Nvidia and the White House for comment.
