The arrival of the army of women to boost Russia’s wartime economy comes as Volodymyr Zelensky has warned Putin is recruiting up to 50,000 North Korean men to fight against Ukraine. He said the “North Korean missiles” would soon be “launched on Kim’s orders.” The reportedly sighting of the Pyongyang soldiers comes after Ukraine’s GUR military intelligence agency claimed a unit of 90 soldiers equipped with 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers has been deployed to Russia. The unit is being formed in Russia’s Voronezh region, a major strategic military and logistics hub in the southwest of the state. Nine members of the Voronov family, including seven children, were killed. South Korean intelligence believes the North reaped almost £10 billion from the previous deployment. Since the beginning of the war, Kim Jong-un and his cronies have sent tens of thousands of workers overseas to replace Russians killed or wounded in the invasion of Ukraine. Between 2,000 and 3,000 North Koreans are believed to have been killed in the war, mainly in Kursk region where they fought off a Ukrainian invasion of Putin’s territory. Referring to Kim’s fighters, Zelensky said: “A decision has been made for between 30,000 and 50,000 North Koreans to be on the territory of Russia.” The war has seen Russia and North Korea forging closer ties, with fears Putin’s missile and nuclear knowhow is being transferred to Pyongyang. In March, The Sun revealed the deplorable conditions North Korean men are forced to endure when they move to Russia for work. Packed side by side, they sleep under constant watch before being awoken by a loudspeaker for their shift that could last up to 16 hours a day, seven days a week. The men have no holiday and no day’s off and sleep on stiff plywood bunks in cockroach-infested huts. The forced labour system has been introduced as Russia becomes more and more desperate for manpower after Russian men are deployed en masse to die on the frontline.
