Norah O’Donnell Returns to ‘CBS Mornings’ in Latest Network Shake Up

CBS News is making another high-profile anchor change: The Bari Weiss-led network news division has named Norah O’Donnell co-host of its flagship morning program CBS Mornings. The new role will pair O’Donnell with Gayle King and Nate Burleson behind the anchor desk. It is also a homecoming for O’Donnell, who previously hosted the program from 2012-2019, before moving to the CBS Evening News. O’Donnell has been a senior correspondent and a frequent fill-in anchor since 2024 when her run at the evening newscast ended. She was also recently named a correspondent on 60 Minutes, where she was previously a contributor. Weiss has been reworking CBS News’ broadcast lineup, plucking Tony Dokoupil from the program for the Evening News slot, and most recently overhauling 60 Minutes under new executive producer Nick Bilton. The morning show has, by contrast, been more stable, with King inking a one-year deal this past spring. The return of O’Donnell will mark the beginning of the shows overhaul, even if it is a familiar one. Vlad Duthiers, Kelly O’Grady, and Adriana Diaz will continue to be daily contributors to the show, and the network is expected to add more names over the coming weeks. “This is a homecoming for Norah. As we all know, for seven years, Norah helped lead CBS This Morning alongside Gayle, creating one of the most memorable partnerships in the history of morning news,” CBS Mornings EP Jon Tower told staff in a memo Thursday morning. “They have a friendship and chemistry that extends beyond the studio. They know each other, respect each other, and — maybe most importantly — genuinely enjoy each other. To put it simply, I can’t think of a team I’d rather watch navigate the news than Gayle, Nate and Norah.”
