It's been a busy year for the franchise, most notably thanks to this week's release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, bringing back a classic to a glowing reception yet again. Other 40th anniversary plans, like The Legend of Zelda: 40th Anniversary Content, were already planned to bleed over into 2027. Since the game didn't make its way west until 1987, it still counts, and fans are unlikely to complain about more Zelda to enjoy. To that end, Nintendo's new financial results imply that even more will be happening and that the 40th anniversary won't be wrapping up any time soon. In Nintendo's new Second Quarter Financial Results, one page is dedicated to The Legend of Zelda, with a particular emphasis on its 40th anniversary. After celebrating the franchise's popularity and history, the report promises "a variety of initiatives to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda." On top of games and the upcoming movie, these will include "music, character merchandise, and more." This isn't quite the same as a new reveal of more Zelda merchandise, but it certainly sounds promising for the longevity of 40th anniversary plans, especially with 2027 being explicitly wrapped into the window of plans. At any rate, there's no shortage of opportunities at hand, with Zelda's iconography lending itself exceptionally well to merchandise and other products. Continuing to lean into The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary plans could also be a good way for Nintendo to take advantage of the movie. Not only will the film adaptation presumably energize some long-term fans, but it could also bring new ones into the fold. Newcomers may not have a truly new Zelda game to play for the Switch 2, but Ocarina of Time and the wide world of 40th anniversary releases should still provide some solid hooks. As for the releases so far, the 40th anniversary has seemingly been a huge success for Nintendo, with products like the 40th anniversary edition of the Switch 2 struggling to stay on store shelves. Some particular hiccups in availability have been frustrating for fans, like Walmart's cancellation of a number of pre-orders at the last minute due to a lack of supply. Nintendo's no stranger to limited availability, though, which worked out well for the company in the case of products like the SNES Classic and Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Along with the merchandise that officially features 40th anniversary imagery, the financial report includes images of some of the latest releases associated with Ocarina of Time and its remake, ranging from Amiibo figures of Link and Zelda to a LEGO set of Link astride Epona. As to other theoretical anniversary products that could end up landing in the coming months, fans of The Legend of Zelda will ultimately just have to wait and see.
