Beverly's IT Return Chances Addressed By Jessica Chastain After Welcome To Derry Season 1 Twist

EXCLUSIVE: Jessica Chastain has a definitive response to the chances of returning for IT: Welcome to Derry season 2. The Oscar winner previously starred in the second part of Andy Muschetti's duology adapting Stephen King's classic novel, playing the adult version of Beverly Marsh as she is asked to return to her Maine hometown by Isaiah Mustafa's Mike to combat the eponymous clown upon its return. While back, Beverly not only confronts the trauma of her childhood, but also rekindles her friendship and bonds with the rest of The Losers' Club, namely Jay Ryan's Ben, whom she marries in IT: Chapter Two's ending. Changing things up from prior adaptations, IT: Welcome to Derry is adapting the interlude chapters of King's novel, exploring the prior eras of the town in which Pennywise the Clown fed on the literal and metaphorical fear of its children. However, Welcome to Derry season 1's ending delivered a big final twist as it revealed Madeleine Stowe's Ingrid to be the elderly Mrs. Kirsh that haunted Chastain's Beverly in Chapter Two, and showed Joan Gregson's version having a brief interaction with Sophia Lillis' Bev. Now, in an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley for her new Netflix thriller Heartland, Chastain was asked about her thoughts on reprising her role of Beverly for IT: Welcome to Derry season 2. The Oscar winner began by praising franchise producer Barbara Muschietti as being "one of my best friends," and describing her and her director brother Andy as "family." She further affirmed that whether it's the King-based franchise or a different project, she'd leap at the opportunity to do so: Jessica Chastain: She and Andy, the director, did IT chapter One and Two, and also they're doing Welcome to Derry. If they call me, I'm [in], whatever their project is. I love them. They're family. Chastain isn't the only prior IT franchise star who's been asked about the possibility of returning for a Welcome to Derry cameo. Both James McAvoy, who starred as an adult Bill, and Mustafa previously confirmed their interest to ScreenRant in stepping back into the Muschietti-driven franchise, with the latter revealing he got an invitation from his former director to visit the HBO show's set during season 1 production. The former similarly expressed his love for the creative team as Chastain, while also stating that "a good script" could woo him back to the fold. Given the show's plan of progressively going backwards in time, it certainly seemed unlikely that any former franchise stars would return for IT: Welcome to Derry, thus making Lillis and Gregson's cameos a fun surprise for longtime fans. More importantly, though, Pennywise's reveal in the season 1 finale that It views time out of order, and therefore could have interactions with characters in any era, opens the door up for a wide variety of other big returns. Narratively, the most likely of the original Losers' Club to return for IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 would not be that of Beverly or Bill, but instead Mustafa's Mike or either version of Ben. As revealed in Chapter Two, though Ryan's adult version had moved out of the titular town, much like many of his other friends, he still seemed to retain some semblance of his teenage memories, particularly in having the page from his yearbook with Bev's signature still in his wallet. With him also being a buff at learning about Derry's history as a kid, there could be a similar flash-forward as to Lillis' Beverly in IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 to bring Ben back. Jeremy Ray Taylor would still ultimately make more sense for such a cameo, potentially being haunted by something tied to season 2's Bradley Gang-focused storyline. Mike, meanwhile, stayed in town and spent the 27 years between both films amassing as much knowledge as he could, leading him to learn about the multiversal entity, Maturin the turtle, which just made its onscreen debut in IT: Welcome to Derry's surprise Halloween episode, A Story of Derry. As such, if this becomes a bigger element in season 2, Mustafa's Mike could make a return in some way, while Chastain's Beverly would make sense if a reveal came about that she was a descendant of one of the new characters in season 2. Release Date October 26, 2025 Network HBO Directors Andy Muschietti It: Welcome to Derry serves as a prequel to the 2017 film It, exploring the sinister history of Derry, Maine. Set in 1962, the series follows a family that relocates to the town amidst unsettling occurrences and the mysterious disappearance of a young boy.
