Nintendo Direct September 2026: Where To Watch And What To Expect

Nintendo is really spoiling us this week. Not only are we getting a Direct dedicated to Zelda’s 40th anniversary on Tuesday, but we’re also getting a general Direct about everything else Nintendo has planned on Wednesday. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about what fans are expecting to be a milestone presentation, including all of the games we might see revealed, discussed, mentioned, or updated. When Is The Direct And How Long Will It Be? The main Nintendo Direct will begin at 10 am EST on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, airing on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel. You can either head there or just watch it through the video below. With more than 24 hours still to go at the time of typing this, there are already 369 people waiting. I’m as excited as the rest of you, but that’s a little much. Nintendo has already confirmed that the Direct will last 45 minutes. There’s very little chance of that changing or the presentation overrunning. Not just because it has been pre-recorded and Nintendo knows exactly how long it will last, but also because there’s a Nintendo Treehouse: Live showcase directly after, during which Nintendo employees will get hands-on with one or two of the games from the Direct so those watching can see even more of them. What Are We Expecting To See? Nintendo What exactly those games might be, and everything else that could be revealed and shown off during Wednesday’s Direct, remains a mystery. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed anything about what will be in this latest Direct, but thanks to leaks, rumors, and a healthy dose of wild speculation, there are a lot of theories out there suggesting we’re going to get some big announcements. The biggest rumor of all is that we’re going to get a Super Smash Bros. reveal of some description. The belief is that it will be an all-new Smash game. I still don’t believe that hype. Smash Ultimate still doesn’t have a Switch 2 edition. My guess is that’s what’s announced, but with the addition that the game will be getting new fighters to celebrate its next-gen update. Nintendo Many are also expecting to see Mario Kart World DLC. Nintendo left people stunned last week when it added a slew of new features to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Surely the newer Mario Kart is due some love too? At the very least, some new tracks, with people likely returning to the older game instead to check out its new content. Plus, suggestions that Star Fox might be added to the game. Two of the leading contenders on the Nintendo roster to potentially get new entry announcements at Wednesday’s Direct are Samus and Luigi. The name of the next 2D Metroid game, Ravenous, has already leaked and is expected to follow on from the events of Dread. We’re also overdue for a new Luigi’s Mansion game, and Mario’s brother stepping up to help distract Switch 2 owners from the fact that the new console still doesn’t have its own 3D Mario game is a great idea. It’s highly unlikely we’ll see a new 3D Mario game this week. We'll Almost Definitely See More From Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave The one game we are almost guaranteed to see during the Direct is Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. The next game in the series releases exclusively on Switch 2 on September 17. Not only will we likely be shown a final trailer to make sure excitement is at an all-time high, but most, if not all, of the subsequent Treehouse might be dedicated to showing off more of its gameplay. Some of the more out-there rumors suggest that a new Wario World game might be revealed, and that we could even be shown a new entry in a long-dormant, incredibly popular Nintendo series - Nintendogs. One of the best-selling games in Nintendo history, yet there hasn’t been a new Nintendogs game since the 3DS era. Some quickfire theories and longshots to close things out. This could be there part two of Pokemon Pokopia’s DLC is revealed, it’s about time we got a new Kirby game rather than another remaster and no, Kirby Air Riders doesn’t count, and I’d love to see what’s next for the Pikmin franchise, although I think what’s next is a Switch 2 edition of Pikmin 4, not Pikmin 5.
