Nightmare for EastEnders’ Kat as Zoe’s funeral is at dramatic risk

Zoe Slater’s funeral is at risk (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) The day that Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) has been dreading finally arrives in EastEnders next week as she prepares to lay her beloved daughter Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) to rest – but her funeral will not go off without a hitch. There’s a nightmare for the Slater-Moon clan in the lead-up to the emotional service, following Zoe’s shock death last month. Subsequent weeks have seen Kat unravel mentally, as she became consumed with trying to find the man who refused Zoe help in her final moments, which viewers know to be Max Branning (Jake Wood). Kat’s breakdown also saw her marriage to Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) come dangerously close to ending, as she accused him of being the man responsible. While the couple have since reconciled, Kat is still not in a good place, and she places Zoe’s funeral at risk after a clash involving Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), who recently learned the truth about her ex-husband Max’s role in Zoe’s death. On Monday, there’s panic when there’s a problem with the order of service, while Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) struggles to write a eulogy for her long-lost mum. Things start to go wrong when the order of service arrives (Picture: BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron) Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), Mo Harris (Laila Morse) and Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) race to fix the order of service without Kat finding out, but that soon becomes the least of the family’s worries when her grief leads her into trouble. She and Cindy clash with a customer outside The Albert, which sparks a chain of events that leave her family wondering if she will make it to Zoe’s funeral. During the hours in which Kat is AWOL, she opens up to Cindy about Zoe’s funeral and the person she believes left her daughter to die, leaving Cindy guilt-ridden, given she’s just taken £50,000 in hush money from Max to stay quiet about his involvement. The good news is that Kat eventually makes it to the service, and not wanting to delay things further, she demands proceedings continue. There won’t be a dry eye in the house as Kat then delivers an emotional tribute to her daughter, in what is bound to be another powerhouse performance from actress Jessie Wallace.
