Triumph has unveiled the updated Tiger 1200 with a 158bhp engine, self-lowering semi-active suspension, a new touchscreen and radar-based rider aids. The adventure motorcycle is set to reach India in March 2027.New Delhi,Oct 28, 2026 12:31 ISTTriumph Motorcycles has unveiled the updated Tiger 1200, bringing significant changes to the adventure motorcycle’s engine, chassis, suspension, styling and technology. The new model is scheduled to arrive in India in March 2027, with the range comprising the GT Pro and Rally Explorer variants. Prices will be announced closer to the commencement of bookings. The updated Tiger 1200 receives a revised 1,160cc T-Plane triple engine, now producing 158bhp at 9,250rpm, an increase of 8bhp over the outgoing model. Triumph says the engine delivers more torque at lower engine speeds, improving low-speed manoeuvrability and overall tractability. Updates to the cylinder head, pistons, valves, fuel injection and exhaust system are aimed at improving combustion efficiency and performance. The six-speed gearbox and shaft drive have also been revised for smoother operation, more precise gear shifts and improved refinement. Changes to the engine’s crankshaft, balancer shaft and camshaft profiles further target reduced vibration and more progressive power delivery.Revised chassis and self-lowering suspensionOne of the biggest changes is the introduction of SHOWA EERA HEIGHTFLEX semi-active suspension, which automatically lowers the seat by 30mm as the motorcycle comes to a stop. The system restores the optimum ride height as the bike moves off, helping riders maintain a more confident footing without compromising the riding position while on the move. The seat height can be reduced further through a two-position adjustment mechanism and an optional low seat. With the low seat fitted and the automatic ride-height function activated, the seat height can be as low as 790mm at a standstill. The suspension system also features a Centre Stand Assist function, which temporarily increases preload to make lifting the motorcycle onto its centre stand easier. The suspension offers three selectable damping settings — Firm, Medium and Soft — while automatic preload adjustment helps maintain ride height and geometry when carrying a passenger or luggage. A hydraulic secondary bump stop has also been added to improve control over demanding terrain. Both variants now feature a 19-inch front wheel, a 17-inch rear wheel and 200mm of suspension travel at both ends. The GT Pro gets cast aluminium wheels for a more road-focused set-up, while the Rally Explorer uses side-laced spoked wheels for greater off-road appeal. The motorcycle continues to use a lightweight chassis, a Tri-Link swingarm and Brembo Stylema brakes.Triumph has also revised the gearing to reduce crawl speed by 6km/h, giving riders greater control during slow-speed manoeuvres. Up to eight riding modes are available, depending on the variant, including Road, Rain, Eco, Sport and Off-road, alongside configurable Rider modes and Off-road Pro on Rally models.New touchscreen and radar-based safety technologyThe updated Tiger 1200 gets a new 7-inch HD touchscreen developed with Bosch, adding wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The display supports navigation, music and messaging applications, while new switchgear and voice-control functionality improve usability.A cooled, waterproof phone compartment integrated into the fuel tank features a USB-C charging port rated at up to 15W. The display also gets anti-glare glass and automatic brightness adjustment.Another major addition is front and rear Bosch radar technology, which enables a comprehensive suite of Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS). These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Group Ride Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Riding Distance Assist, Emergency Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Rear Distance Warning. The systems are designed to improve rider awareness by monitoring traffic ahead and behind. Depending on the function, they can provide visual or haptic warnings, regulate acceleration and apply braking assistance when required. The radar-based features work alongside the motorcycle’s existing Optimised Cornering ABS and Traction Control systems, which use data from a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU).The motorcycle also gets an adaptive LED projector headlight with cornering functionality. Additional LED elements illuminate the inside of a bend at lean angles of 15 and 30 degrees, while an electric motor adjusts the beam level to compensate for changes in suspension height.Updated styling, improved comfort and two variantsThe new Tiger 1200 features redesigned bodywork, including a revised fuel tank, radiator cowls, beak and windscreen. The updated front end incorporates the compact LED projector headlight, a distinctive daytime running light and integrated LED marker lights. The rear lighting has also been redesigned for a cleaner appearance.Triumph has revised the rider and pillion seats, adding 10mm of foam thickness for improved comfort. Heated rider and pillion seats, along with three-stage heated grips, are standard across the range. The GT Pro retains a 20-litre fuel tank, while the Rally Explorer gets a larger 30-litre tank for extended touring range. The Rally Explorer also features side-laced spoked wheels, Off-road Pro riding mode, additional engine protection and upper engine bars. Both variants benefit from shaft drive, reducing routine maintenance compared with a conventional chain drive. The GT Pro will be offered in Sapphire Black and Aluminium Silver/Pacific Blue, while the Rally Explorer will be available in Ash Grey/Sapphire Black and Matt Khaki Green.India launch timeline and availabilityThe updated Triumph Tiger 1200 is expected to go on sale in India from March 2027 in GT Pro and Rally Explorer forms. Pricing and booking details will be announced closer to the booking commencement date.Triumph has also highlighted a 16,000km service interval and a range of touring accessories, including luggage developed with GIVI. The accessory range includes a new 58-litre twin-helmet top box, a 42-litre alternative and matching panniers, aimed at riders undertaking long-distance touring.Subscribe to Auto Today Magazine - Ends
