New Mac Mini and Mac Studio launched: Specs, India price and everything else to know

Apple has launched new Mac mini and Mac Studio models with updated chips and India pricing. The compact Mac mini now gets the company's first 2nm M6 chip, while the Mac Studio moves to M5 Max and the new M5 Ultra processor. The upgrades put a strong focus on AI performance, along with faster connectivity and storage.For buyers in India, the Mac mini with M6 starts at Rs 99,900, while the M5 Pro version starts at Rs 2,09,900. The Mac Studio starts at Rs 2,79,900 with M5 Max and Rs 6,29,900 with M5 Ultra. Education pricing starts at Rs 88,990, Rs 1,97,900, Rs 2,56,900 and Rs 5,84,900, respectively.Pre-orders for all four models are now open through Apple's online store and Store app. They will be available from Apple Store outlets and authorised retailers starting September 22.New Mac mini focuses on AI performanceThe biggest story with the new Mac mini is the M6 chip. It is Apple's first Mac processor built on a 2nm process and comes with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU. Apple has also added two 16-core Neural Engines to improve workloads involving AI. The company claims the M6 Mac mini can deliver up to twice the graphics performance and four times the AI performance of the M4 model. The compact desktop starts with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB storage, with support for up to 32GB RAM and 2TB storage.Apple is also offering the Mac mini with M5 Pro for users who need more processing power. This version has a 15-core CPU and 12-core GPU, with 24GB memory and 512GB storage as its starting configuration. Buyers can increase these to 64GB RAM and 8TB storage. Connectivity has also received an upgrade. Both versions support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, while the Mac mini now starts with 2.5Gb Ethernet instead of 1Gb Ethernet. A 10Gb Ethernet option is available for users who need higher wired speeds.Mac Studio gets Apple's most powerful chipThe Mac Studio is aimed at a different audience, with M5 Max and M5 Ultra configurations designed for demanding professional and AI workloads.The M5 Max version can be configured with up to a 40-core GPU, 128GB of unified memory and 8TB of storage. The new M5 Ultra goes much further, combining two M5 Max dies through Apple's UltraFusion technology. The top configuration has a 36-core CPU, 80-core GPU and up to 512GB of unified memory, with storage options reaching 16TB.Apple has also upgraded the Mac Studio's SSD architecture to PCIe Gen 6, which it says makes storage twice as fast. The machine supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 as well. Another notable addition is genlock support over USB-C on both Macs. The feature is particularly useful for professional video production, where cameras and displays need to stay precisely synchronised.The new Mac mini starts at $899 in the US, while the Mac Studio begins at $2,499.
