When it was first claimed that a live-action Naruto movie was in the works, I think most of us had traumatic flashbacks to the awful Dragon Ball Evolution and Netflix's Death Note. That response has changed a bit in recent years, though, with One Piece proving it can be done and Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm. That’s left a lot of people somewhat hopeful that the Naruto movie could end up being better than previous live-action manga adaptations, but we still have to actually see it to, sigh, believe it. Ahead of an official first look, a reliable insider has revealed some new details that suggest some pretty important changes are being made to key characters. Naruto Live-Action Movie Makes Big Changes To Team 7 Naruto As A Ninja History Nerd Sounds Cool, But There’s An Obvious Issue Earlier this week, reliable movie insider Daniel Richtman reported some details about the live-action Naruto movie, which is apparently “faithful” to the manga but not 100 percent accurate. For example, Sakura already has her powers and is stronger from the start, as well as coming from a wealthy family that lost their dad during Kurama’s attack, similar to Road to Ninja. Speaking of Kurama, the movie also makes it so that Jinchuriki are determined by bloodline, meaning only an Uzumaki can have the nine tails. Naruto is reportedly a “bit of a ninja history nerd”, which is an interesting change that could get pretty confusing since he would surely know who the Seventh Hokage was if he’s that into history. As you can imagine, these changes caused quite a stir from fans, to the point that DanielRPK actually issued a response. He clarified that Sasuke and Sakura’s crushes are more subtle, defended the Jinchuriki bloodline situation, and explained that Naruto is still bad at school and just has an interest in history. Sakura’s changes are also meant to keep her from being “useless” and more rounded. More than anything, DanielRPK was quick to point out that “Destin Daniel Cretton is a GREAT director” and that “the movie is in good hands”. While I can see some of these changes being controversial since they really are important in the grand scheme of things, it’ll all really depend on how the final movie actually comes together, so let’s not all lose hope just yet. Naruto Release Date 2002 - 2007-00-00 Showrunner Masashi Kishimoto
