Murder probe after man found dead alongside seriously injured child in Co Tyrone as PSNI confirm suspect in custody

A MURDER probe is under way after a man was found dead alongside a seriously injured child this morning in Co Tyrone. The PSNI has confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after the grim discovery. A trampoline can be seen in the garden of the house. The nature of the child’s injuries are unclear at this time. They are receiving treatment at Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Cops from the Major Investigations Team are now investigating the shocking incident. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said they were called to the scene at 11.08am. One advanced care paramedic, two ambulance officers and three emergency crews rushed to the property. A Hazardous Area Response Team and a helicopter crew, travelling in a ground vehicle, were also despatched. Most read in The Sun Sinn Fein councillor Deirdre Varsani, who is also chairwoman of Mid Ulster District Council, said that there is a “strong sense of shock and trauma” in the area today. She continued: “There is a strong police presence in the area today, trying to carry out investigations and find out and establish what happened. “We never confirm any of the details until the police would give those full details, but certainly it is a long-standing member of the local community who have been here a good number of years. “There appears to be a strong sense of shock and trauma and again we ask people to be respectful of the news that might be coming out, and if you have any information, even the smallest piece of information, to please pass that on to police.” A PSNI spokesperson said that the force would provide a further update “in due course”.
