Motorola has announced a new, more affordable smartwatch for anyone not interested in the Wear OS-enabled benefits of the Moto Watch Ultra. The Moto Watch 2 Fit is a sequel to the company’s previous Fit smartwatch and also marks a return of sorts to extra-long battery life. The company’s shift to using a real-time operating system (RTOS) on the Moto Watch 100 in 2021 came with extended battery efficiency, a quality Motorola later moved away from on the Ultra due to the demands of Wear OS and a cellular radio. The Moto Watch 2 Fit apparently doesn’t have to deal with that tradeoff: Motorola says the watch gets up to 12 days of battery life on a single charge. The rest of the smartwatch is a bit more expected. Like the original Moto Watch Fit, the new model features a boxy, Apple Watch-esque aluminum frame, with a rectangular 1.85-inch OLED screen and a crown and side button for navigating its interface and custom watch faces. Motorola says the watch is IP68 rated and offers 5ATM water resistance, which means it should be able to handle a quick swim. It also includes dual-frequency GPS that will make it useful for outdoor activities. © Motorola Health features are naturally a big part of the Moto Watch 2 Fit. The smartwatch can track your heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and stress and features activity detection so it can automatically identify and log workouts. It also comes with several health features designed by Polar, including one called Running Index that gives you a score based on your aerobic fitness and running efficiency, a Daily Activity Goal and Daily Activity Score based on your movement, and sleep tracking and breathing exercise features. For the first time on a Motorola watch, the Fit will support menstrual cycle tracking directly in the Moto Watch app, according to Motorola. Motorola Qira, the company’s AI assistant, will be available on the watch in the coming months. The watch can also take calls from a connected phone, but it’s otherwise not clear what software the watch is running. The battery life and lack of any mention of Wear OS certainly suggest the new smartwatch is using RTOS, but Motorola doesn’t specify. Considering the general interest in fitness trackers, the Moto Watch 2 Fit being a more focused smartwatch might not be a bad thing. The Moto Watch 2 Fit will be available in the coming weeks in Pantone Stratified Sea (dark blue), Pantone Pigeon (gray), and Pantone Ballerina (light pink) color options. The company says the smartwatch will “roll out to select countries and regions across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North America, and Asia-Pacific,” but it hasn’t shared North American pricing yet. In Europe, it starts at €99.
