Monsoon to lash Delhi, MP, UP, other states on Saturday. Check forecast

The southwest monsoon is likely to remain active across large parts of India on Saturday, August 22, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rain at isolated places across several states.The weather system over northeast Madhya Pradesh is helping sustain rainfall over central and northern parts of the country, while another spell of widespread rain is expected across parts of the east and Northeast. Chhattisgarh is another area where thunderstorms with lightning are likely.East Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also likely to see isolated heavy rainfall on Friday.Meanwhile, Uttarakhand could see thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.WHY IS MONSOON SO ACTIVE?A low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring areas persisted on August 21, with its associated circulation extending up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. (Photo: PTI) The monsoon trough, a long belt of relatively low pressure that helps organise monsoon rainfall, was passing through Amritsar, Muzaffarnagar and Kanpur before running through the low-pressure area and onward towards the northeast Bay of Bengal.These systems are helping keep the monsoon active over central and northern India.Beyond northern and central India, the IMD expects fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on August 22.Heavy rain is possible at isolated places in these areas, as well as in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
