Monsoon not limited to India: These neighbours face extreme rain ahead

(Photo: Windy)The southwest monsoon is set to unleash widespread heavy rainfall across large parts of South, Southeast, and East Asia over the coming days, raising concerns over flooding, landslides, and disruptions in several countries.Weather agencies and forecast models indicate that the wet spell will be driven by an active monsoon circulation, multiple low-pressure systems, and the influence of tropical system Saudel, which is expected to strengthen and could potentially develop into a typhoon.India remains at the center of the monsoon activity, with central, northern, and northeastern regions likely to receive significant rainfall. States including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, and Assam are expected to witness heavy to very heavy showers, with some areas facing the risk of flash floods and waterlogging. The Himalayan foothills are also likely to see persistent rain, increasing the possibility of landslides.Neighbouring Nepal and Bangladesh are also expected to be heavily affected. In Bangladesh, the northern and northeastern districts could receive intense downpours, while Nepal's mountainous terrain raises the risk of landslips and swollen rivers. Further east, Myanmar is forecast to experience heavy rain along its Bay of Bengal coastline and in northern mountainous regions. Thailand, particularly its northern, western, and northeastern provinces, is expected to see widespread rainfall, while Cambodia's Gulf of Thailand coast and northeastern areas could also receive substantial precipitation.Laos and northern Vietnam are likely to remain under active monsoon conditions, with periods of intense rain that may trigger localised flooding. Meanwhile, southern China, especially provinces along the South China Sea coast, could face heavy showers linked to both monsoon moisture and the evolving tropical system.Taiwan and the Philippines are also on alert. Northwestern parts of the Philippines may experience enhanced rainfall as Saudel tracks through the western Pacific.
