Minions & Monsters Digital Streaming Date Revealed After Record-Setting Box Office Run

The newest movie in the Minions series now has an official digital streaming date, after the Despicable Me spinoff had a record-setting box office run. A prequel to all other movies in the franchise, Minions & Monsters follows a group of Minions who decide they want to make a monster movie with real monsters. After managing to find a way to bring real monsters to Hollywood, they end up unleashing comedic catastrophe, and must save the world. Reviews for Minions & Monsters have been stellar, the movie holding an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Universal Pictures and Illumination have confirmed Minions & Monsters will be available to purchase digitally on August 11, 2026. This comes after the movie earned $449 million against an $85 million budget at the box office, making it the tenth-highest-grossing movie of the year, but the record lowest-earning movie in the Despicable Me franchise. Alongside its digital release next week, the Despicable Me prequel will also be available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD starting from September 8, 2026. Both versions come with a plethora of bonus features for diehard fans of the franchise. Bonus features are available at specific retailers. This includes "Minions Take on Hollywood," where filmmakers and animators explain the influences behind the movie's Hollywood setting. "Casting Minions & Monsters" features interviews with the voice cast and their perspectives on the movie. "Hollywood Sound" sees composer John Powell discussing the movie's score and what influenced the music used at various points in the film. "How to Make Your Own Irene Blob Monster Slime" sees the slime influencer Snoopslimes explain how to make a "blob monster" using ingredients from home. Another bonus feature is "Movie-Making Minions Style," which features a how-to guide for those who want to make their own Minions-inspired monster movie using drawings and flipbook animation. Finally, there is a "How to Draw" program from Nima Azarba, who provides lessons on how to draw Minions & Monsters' main Minion characters, alongside the monsters, and many other elements from the film. These bonus features, while available from select sellers, total over 45 minutes of content, which can help to enhance viewers' experience of the movie at home. The movie's success at the box office and with critics makes it clear that Minions movies are still staples of animated stories aimed at a family-focused audience. The release of the movie at home after just one month in theaters isn't too surprising, considering the movie more than made back its budget, despite having one of the lower box office takes of the franchise. Still, it's managed to maintain a top spot amongst movies in 2026, something that may continue to be reflected upon its digital release. With the movie coming to digital in a little over a week, Minions & Monsters remains a cornerstone of Illumination's 2026 releases.
