Meet Devyn Dalton, Matt Damon's 34-year-old female stunt double in The Odyssey

Actor Matt Damon may have grabbed headlines for his striking physical transformation in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, but he says someone else deserves just as much credit. Speaking about the making of the film, Damon revealed that a female stunt performer doubled for him in one of its biggest action sequences – and he made sure to acknowledge her work.The actor, who plays Odysseus in Nolan's adaptation of Homer's epic, shared the behind-the-scenes detail during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He was referring to the Laestrygonians sequence, in which Odysseus encounters the race of giants.The stunt performer was later identified as Devyn Dalton, a Canadian actor, dancer and stunt artist. Following the film's theatrical release on July 17, Dalton also shared behind-the-scenes photos and videos from the set on Instagram.Recalling how the sequence was filmed, Damon said Nolan's team relied on force perspective to create the illusion of towering giants. "When we did the force perspective stuff with the Laestrygonians, there were these stuntmen who were all seven feet, and then they got stunt people who were under five feet. My double was a woman, a female stunt performer who had the greatest arms I've ever seen. When she came into the catering tent, it was the first time I met her. I went up and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she put in," Damon said.He added that Dalton appears in several shots involving the giants. "There are those shots where you see these giants looming over me – that's her," Damon said. "It was almost 100 per cent my arms in the movie, but you've got to give it up where it's due," he added.Damon had previously spoken about the physical demands of playing Odysseus on the New Heights podcast. The actor revealed that he slimmed down to 167 pounds to achieve the look Nolan envisioned."I was in really good shape. I lost a lot of weight," he said, adding, "[Nolan] wanted me lean but strong. Just because of this other thing that I did with my doctor, I stopped eating gluten. I used to walk around at between 185 and 200, and I did that whole movie at 167. I haven't been that light since high school.
