Matt Damon Is Officially Joining ‘Fortnite’ Thanks to Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Based on Homer's legendary epic, the movie follows Odysseus' long and dangerous journey home after the Trojan War and boasts one of the most impressive ensemble casts of Nolan's career. With opening weekend now just around the corner and the movie securing Nolan's highest Rotten Tomatoes score of his career thus far, excitement surrounding the project has only continued to grow. Like many major blockbuster releases, The Odyssey isn't waiting until audiences take their seats in theaters to expand its reach. As the countdown to the movie's premiere enters its final hours, fans are getting another way to celebrate Nolan's latest adventure before opening weekend officially begins. 'Fortnite' Players Can Unlock Matt Damon's Odysseus for Free Epic Games has announced The Odyssey Cup, a limited-time Fortnite tournament that gives players the chance to earn Matt Damon's Odysseus outfit ahead of its Item Shop release. The event runs on July 15 and July 16, just before Nolan's The Odyssey premieres in theaters on July 17. The cosmetic is based directly on Damon's appearance in the upcoming movie, complete with armor inspired by Nolan's adaptation. Players who place among the top competitors in their region can also unlock Odysseus' Xiphos pickaxe and the Bow of Iphytus back bling. Additional rewards are available to anyone who participates, with the King's Helm spray awarded at 40 points and The Trojan War loading screen unlocked after earning just eight points. The tournament is available in both Battle Royale and Zero Build playlists, while a separate Reload competition gives eligible mobile players an opportunity to compete as well. Those who don't earn the outfit through competition won't be locked out permanently. Odysseus is expected to arrive in the Fortnite Item Shop after the tournament concludes, giving players another opportunity to add the legendary king to their locker. Damon leads the cast of Nolan's The Odyssey that also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Corey Hawkins, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Himesh Patel, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick E. Tarabay, and Cosmo Jarvis. While audiences still have to wait until this weekend to experience Nolan's take on Homer's classic, Fortnite players can begin their own journey with Odysseus a little early. The Odyssey premieres in theaters tomorrow on July 17, 2026.
