Martin Roberts reveals future of Homes Under The Hammer as it nears milestone anniversary

HOMES Under the Hammer star Martin Roberts has revealed the show has been recommissioned for 80 more episodes. The long-running property programme has been on air for 23 years and the new batch of episodes will see it reach the milestone of a quarter of a century on the box. So you’ll never see a new series of Homes Under the Hammer start. Sign up for the TV newsletter Thank you! “We film new episodes which are then slotted into a sequence of an older one, a middle-aged one and, you know, a brand new one. We’ve just, I’m delighted to say, been commissioned for another 80 programmes. “You know, that takes us to series 36, I think it is. I am hugely proud to be part of a show that’s been going for 23 years and I’ve been one of the people fronting it for all that time. READ MORE ON MARTIN ROBERTS “In fact, we will make it to 25 [years] because the stuff we’re filming now won’t go out for another two years, which takes us to 25 years.” The show sees Martin and his co-hosts show viewers around properties that are in great need of TLC before plucky house-flippers snap them up at auction and work their magic to bring them up to a livable standard, often making a decent profit in the process. There’s very little glamour to the programme, with houses often stripped bare or falling to pieces inside, but there’s a charm to it that is proving a hit with the Hollywood elite. Reeling off the show’s celeb fans, Martin names Meryl Streep, Daniel Craig, Mark Wahlberg and Brit icon Julie Walters. Most read in Showbiz “People love it. And I know we’ve got celebrity fans,” says Martin, speaking on behalf of BestBettingSites.co.uk, the leading comparison site for online casinos. “I met Julie Walters and she came running up to me. She was like, ‘oh, Martin, Martin, lovely to meet you. You know me and my husband, we sit there watching you in our slippers’ and I felt, Julie, I love you. And it was just amazing. Those things are always wonderful. “But the day-to-day people I meet, you know, the people I meet in Tesco, the people I meet when I’m at car boot sales, you know, come up to me and say ‘you’ve actually made a difference to me. You’ve helped me through sickness. You’ve helped me when my wife was terminally ill and I had to nurse her. You’ve helped me when I was an expectant mother’. “All these people who just give you their life stories and how it has impacted on their lives. And that is something that I am so proud of and how lucky am I to be part of a show that can affect people in such a positive way.” Though he’s best known for Homes Under the Hammer, Martin has branched out in the past, appearing on I’m A Celebrity…. Get Me Out of Here! in 2016, finishing sixth. His dream is to take part in Strictly Come Dancing, but at 63 he says his time is running out and he fears his enthusiastic calls to be signed have had a detrimental impact on his chances. He tells us: “If my enthusiasm for being on the show has somehow prejudiced my chances of being on the show, then, that’s a real cruel irony for me. I meant it in good faith.” Comment now
