Mariah Carey ‘Unironically’ Reissuing ‘Glitter’ Soundtrack for 25th Anniversary

While Glitter the film, released theatrically in September 2001 and starring Carey, was met with harsh reviews and a lackluster box office — it didn’t help that the movie arrived soon after 9/11 — Carey’s soundtrack has become a fan favorite, even inspiring a #JusticeforGlitter campaign in 2018 to raise the soundtrack to Number One on the iTunes charts. “If someone had told me back in 2001 that I’d one day be unironically celebrating Glitter’s 25th anniversary, I never would have believed them,” Carey said of the reissue in a statement. “I made this album with so much love and care, so it was devastating to watch it become a punch line. I’m endlessly grateful to my fans who kept championing it all these years, and I hope even more people can finally hear it for what it is.
