Officers received reports of a crash involving four cars. The 58-year-old driver of a grey Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.Four others involved were taken to hospital for treatment and later released. Police said two women and a man from a grey Mercedes fled the scene on foot and specialist resources have been deployed to hunt them down. Both sniffer dogs and helicopters were used in search efforts on Monday. The A8 was shut as the investigation continued and only reopened at 7pm. Inspector Thomas Mallinson said: 'My thoughts are with the family of the person who died at this incredibly difficult time.'Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and it is vital we trace the three people who left the area before police arrived.'I am appealing for anyone who witnessed it or who has information which could assist our investigation to contact us.'I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash-cam footage to please get in touch if it holds anything which could be relevant.'A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said yesterday three ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit and a critical care paramedic had been dispatched.Anyone with information on the crash, involving a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, a grey Skoda Karoq and a grey Hyundai i30, is asked to call 101 and quote reference 0756.
