Balloon protest popped Well, that is rather anticlimactic. We were expecting thousands of balloons to float onto the pitch from the Stretford End, but there are barely any there. You can see a smattering of yellow and green balloons in the crowd but very few have reached the Old Trafford turf. That hasn't exactly gone as planned...Tributes to take place for De MiguelIt has been a very sad day for football. It was announced earlier today that Tenerife striker Jesus De Miguel has died after suffering a severe blow to the chest in a collision with a rival goalkeeper during a match on Monday. The 30-year-old had been admitted to intensive care following a horrifying foul by FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono, which led to the Spanish second division match being abandoned deep into stoppage time with the scores level at 2-2.His football club announced that De Miguel's condition had worsened overnight, with the forward passing away this morning. It was news that has rocked the sport and tonight there will be a moment of silence in tribute to the forward ahead of every single Champions League match. This will be the case for all UEFA matches this week.United's European woeManchester United have not been having a good time of it in the Champions League over the last few years.Their record is, well... awful.Following their humiliation in Como, United have lost seven of their last 10 Champions League games, winning only two of those matches. That represents the Red Devils’ worst ever run in the competition. They have a big 90 minutes coming up at Old Trafford to change that.'3,000 balloons handed out to Stretford End'Nathan Salt at Old Trafford:3,000 balloons handed out... that's the word. But the debate in the press box is, how do you effectively get a balloon to travel down towards the pitch? Seems tricky.'Carrick continues to roll the dice' Ian Ladyman at Old Trafford:Nowhere do United look weaker at the moment than across the back four and it says everything for how the club’s recruitment has misfired in this area that £90m of central defensive talent is sitting on the bench. For different reasons, Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs De Ligt are among the substitutes at Old Trafford as Michael Carrick chooses to pair Harry Maguire with young Ayden Heaven in the middle of his back four. Carrick continues to roll the dice as he looks to save his job and here against the third best team in Italy he has done it again. Countdown to kick-offAre we all excited?Well, you should be because there are now just over 10 minutes until kick-off at both Old Trafford and the Nou Camp.Warm-ups at both grounds have now finished, the stands are filling up, and its almost go time. It's going to be a belting night of action.Yamal hunts another recordAccording to Opta, Lamine Yamal will set a new record for the most UEFA Champions League goals scored by a teenager if he finds the back of the net tonight. The forward, 19, is currently level with Kylian Mbappe on 13. To be fair, he's not 20 until July, so only needs one more this season to break the record. What a fantastic talent. And one we will enjoy for many, many years.'Good to see Gordon'Ollie Holt at the Nou Camp:Good to see Anthony Gordon starting again for Barcelona. The club chose him for media duties yesterday and he gave a lot of insight about the challenges of living in a different country for the first time and adapting to the ways of a club of Barcelona's size.WATCH: THAT Carrick strike against RomaSpeaking of that quarter-final back in 2007, Michael Carrick will most likely have good memories of it (from a footballing perspective, of course). Why? Well, he scored a banger in the second leg of it.The now-United boss wasn't known for his finishing during his playing days, but just take a look at this hit. One hell of a strike.Carrick needs one of the current squad to deliver a screamer like this for him this evening to buy him more time in the hot seat.'It's still a building site'Oliver Holt at the Nou Camp:Barcelona are out warming up now.The stadium is still ringed by huge yellow cranes as the renovation work continues. It is a majestic stadium but, largely hidden from view, it is still a building site.'United wary of Roma fans potentially in the home end'Chris Wheeler and Nathan Salt, Man United correspondents:Manchester United are on high alert to prevent Roma fans infiltrating the areas of Old Trafford reserved for home supporters in tonight’s Champions League clash. The fixture has a history of violence and United are determined to make sure more trouble isn’t sparked by Italian ultras buying tickets in the United sections of the stadium.United will be extra vigilant to prevent Roma fans ending up among the home supporters, with any stray travelling fans being ejected immediately.A rivalry reignited Manchester United and Roma have history...The rivalry between the two dates back to their first meeting in the quarter-final of the Champions League in April 2007. It was a night that turned into chaos.Violence broke out in the Italian city, with Italian riot police widely criticised for wading into English fans. It came after United fans reacted to being pelted with missiles by Roma supporters.A number of United fans were hospitalised, including 10 who were stabbed after being ambushed outside the Stadio Olimpico before kick-off. Roma were fined £31,000 – twice as much as United – and The Independent Manchester United Supporters’ Association pursued legal action against the Italian police for years afterwards. United went on to win the return leg 7-1, with police making 18 arrests after fans clashed outside Old Trafford. But the history of violence doesn't stop there. The two teams met in the quarter-finals yet again the following season on their way to winning the Champions League in 2008, having also played each other in the group stage – when trouble flared in Rome and three fans were stabbed. There are hopes that such clashes will not come to fruitition tonight due to police preparation in Manchester.
