MINNEAPOLIS — A Nicaraguan citizen’s motion for a preliminary injunction was granted by a Minnesota federal court, which ordered the government to return the man to the U.S. from the Central African Republic, where ICE sent him in August. The court finds ICE officers repeatedly ignored the man’s withholding of removal order and pending habeas case and instead transferred him around the country before shoving him on a plane to Africa after shooting him with rubber bullets while he, restrained, pleaded with agents on a bus. The court finds the government likely had no authority to detain or deport the man, and must bring him back.Read the ruling here.Subscribe to our free newslettersOur weekly newsletter Closing Arguments offers the latest about ongoing trials, major litigation and rulings in courthouses around the U.S. and the world, while the monthly Under the Lights dishes the legal dirt from Hollywood, sports, Big Tech and the arts.Additional Reads
