Police have arrested the accused.The survivor, Lakshmi Durga, works as an Assistant Professor at SVIT College in Rajanukunte. The attack took place on July 25 at around 3 pm inside the college's Principal's chamber.According to the police, the accused, Nagendra, who worked as a cab driver, visited the college claiming that he wanted to meet his daughter. After college staff allowed him inside the Head of the Department's cabin, he allegedly attacked Lakshmi Durga with a knife when she came to meet him.Lakshmi Durga sustained stab injuries to her abdomen, chest and neck before the accused fled the spot. She was rushed for treatment, while Rajanukunte Police launched an investigation and later arrested Nagendra. During the investigation, police found that the family had been embroiled in a dispute over Lakshmi Durga's proposed marriage. Nagendra had reportedly been searching for a groom, and one prospective groom's family had agreed to the alliance.However, police said Nagendra allegedly demanded 40 lakh from the groom's family, claiming he had spent heavily on his daughter's education and career. He also allegedly insisted that Lakshmi Durga's monthly salary should continue to be paid to him even after her marriage. Police said Lakshmi Durga and her mother strongly opposed these demands, leading to frequent quarrels and strained relations within the family. Investigators believe the dispute ultimately culminated in the violent attack inside the college campus.Police have registered a case at the Rajanukunte Police Station.
