Man in his 30s dies & driver injured after lorry with crane attached overturns and hits van – as A-road closed

NewsUK News A MAN has tragically died and a driver has been rushed to hospital after a crane-carrying lorry overturned and crashed into a van. The A37 remains closed while cops continue their investigation into the horror smash in Ston Easton, Somerset, yesterday afternoon. Emergency crews were scrambled to the collision on the busy A-road shortly after 2.25pm. The lorry, which had a crane attached, overturned before smashing into the van, Avon and Somerset Police said. His heartbroken family are currently being supported by specially-trained officers. Medical teams rushed the van driver to hospital, where he is still being treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening. It is understood the lorry driver did not sustain injuries during the horror. The A37 High Street was completely shut last night as detectives combed the crash site. And cops confirmed the road is likely to remain shut for “some time” for repairs to the highway. Issuing a statement, it said: “A man in his thirties has died following a two-vehicle collision on the A37 at Ston Easton yesterday. “A lorry, with a crane attached, overturned at about 2.25pm and collided with a van. “Sadly, a passenger within the van has died at the scene. His family have been informed and they are being supported by a specially-trained officer. “The van driver has attended hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. “The lorry driver is not believed to have sustained any physical injury. “Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that may assist our enquiries, is asked to contact us quoting reference number 5226235326.”
