Lewis Hamilton finally lands dream Ferrari after taking ownership of iconic supercar which sat dormant for over 30 years

LEWIS HAMILTON has finally taken ownership of his dream Ferrari F40 road car. The seven-time world champion dusted off the cobwebs of the iconic super car which has sat dormant in a garage for over 30 years. But he said at the time that he still had a special place in his heart for his favourite Ferrari, the legendary F40. He said: “If I was going to get a car, it would be the F40. But that’s a nice piece of art.” Hamilton has been a Ferrari F1 driver for over 18 months but he has been waiting for the perfect F40 to invest in. It appears he has now found a rare low-mileage example. Hamilton was pictured posing next to an F40 outside of Enzo Ferrari’s house during his first visit to Ferrari’s Maranello at the end of January. He also posted a video of himself driving a Japanese-based F40 at a Tokyo car meet earlier this year. Posting on Instagram on Monday, Hamilton introduced the car as his “very own F40,” adding “this is the car of my dreams.” The post included a series of images of the dust-covered car at Ferrari’s “classiche” department, which restores and certifies Ferraris that are over 20 years old. Hamilton said: “These cars are works of art and incredibly rare, so when I found this one, covered in dust after being sat in a garage for over thirty years, I knew I had to bring her home, “First to Maranello, where the master engineers and mechanics at the factory worked for weeks to bring her back to life. “Massive thank you to everyone who had a hand in this project. This has truly been a dream come true.” The F40 was the last of Ferrari’s road cars to be commissioned and approved by founder Enzo Ferrari before his death in 1988. Original owners include F1 legends Niki Lauda, Jacky Ickx, Gerhard Burger, John Surtees and Striling Moss. Hamilton’s former on track rival, Sebastian Vettel, owned an F40 that previously belonged to Luciano Paravrotti, although he reportedly sold it after he left the Italian team in 2020, saying he wanted more “space.” Hamilton could rock up to Ferrari’s home race this weekend in Monza in his freshly restored F40.
