Lenovo’s next ThinkBook Plus laptop could have a rollable display that extends horizontally

Earlier this year Lenovo unveiled a Legion Pro Rollable concept laptop with a display that expands to the left and right, giving you more horizontal screen space. While Lenovo Legion-branded devices are designed for gamers, it looks like the company could be planning to bring a similar design to its consumer and business laptop lineup soon.Windows Latest has published leaked photos of a new model that Lenovo is said to be developing. It has display that’s similar to the Legion Pro Rollable’s, but this new model has ThinkBook branding, which means it will likely be thinner, lighter, and possibly at least a little more affordable since it might not have discrete graphics.Said to be code-named Project Swan during development, this seems to be a likely candidate for a next-gen Lenovo ThinkBook Plus laptop. The PC maker has been using the ThinkBook Plus brand as a sort of playground for new and unusual laptops for years, with past models featuring E Ink displays, secondary screens in the keyboard area, and screens with motorized hinges that rotate automatically.Perhaps the closest cousin to Project Swan would be last year’s ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, which has a rollable display that extends upward to give users 50 percent more screen space.Project Swan most likely uses similar flexible OLED display technology. But since it extends horizontally, it will need to roll at two points instead of one. That allows it to extend to both the left and right sides of the display, converting the screen from widescreen to ultra-wide when you want more space, and retracting when you don’t.Lenovo hasn’t officially confirmed the existence of Project Swan yet, but given the timing of the leak, I suspect the company could make an official announcement during the IFA show coming up in Berlin in September. And while signs point to this being a concept device for now, Lenovo does have a history of turning concept devices into real products you can actually buy… if you can afford them. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 with a vertically rollable display sold for $3300 and up at launch, and that was before RAMageddon really kicked into high gear.For now, you can find a few more leaked pictures at Windows Latest.
