Legion Y700 Gen4 Tablet Powered By Snapdragon 8 Elite Seeing Linux Patches

The Legion Y700 Gen4 is an Android tablet that debuted last year and powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. This 8.8-inch tablet is now seeing patches for enabling Linux support outside the confines of Android and will hopefully end up in the mainline kernel. The Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen 4 is a capable, modern tablet with its Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, 12GB or 16GB of RAM depending upon the model, up to 1TB of built-in storage plus microSDXC, and an 8.8-inch 1904 x 3040 pixel IPS display. Open-source contributor Pengyu Luo sent out the initial patches today to establish a Device Tree for the Lenovo Legion Y700 Gen4 and it gets basic functionality like the buttons, USB, frame-buffer display, and more working. With downstream patches it's possible to get the GPU and touchscreen working and more. But not yet working and quite important is the WiFi and Bluetooth as well as camera support. The microphones, sensors, and vibrators are among the other features only working with downstream code too. So at this stage this 2025 Lenovo tablet is far from being a great device for mainline Linux kernel use but hopefully that will change with time. In any case those interested in the initial DT support for the Y700 Gen4 can find the patches on the kernel mailing list. Hopefully it won't be too long before the other missing functionality is addressed so that this Lenovo tablet can work out nicely on the mainline Linux kernel.
