Kingdom Hearts 4 News Very Unlikely At TGS

Don't Expect Kingdom Hearts 4 News At Tokyo Game Show Published Sep 5, 2026, 8:25 AM EDT George is the Lead News Editor for TheGamer, and has been working in the industry since 2021 after graduating from the University of South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. He has also previously written for RPG Site, WhatCulture, and PlayStation Lifestyle. George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends. Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4. Square Enix has revealed its lineup for Tokyo Game Show 2026 and, while Kingdom Hearts 4 is mentioned, you really shouldn’t expect anything new to show up. After a few years of painful silence, Kingdom Hearts fans have finally been treated right over the past few months. Not only was the long-awaited Switch 2 port confirmed, but we’ve also had two new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailers since June, our first Disney world revealed, a release window confidently set, and much more. Now that Kingdom Hearts is truly back in action and we have a vague date to look forward to, everyone is wondering when we’ll next see Kingdom Hearts 4. This month’s Tokyo Game Show showcase seemed like a safe bet considering Square Enix's presence there, but I really wouldn’t get your hopes up for anything new being shown. Kingdom Hearts 4 Confirmed For TGS, But Only On A Trailer Wall Don’t Expect More Than The Same Trailer Earlier this week, Square Enix revealed its Tokyo Game Show 2027 lineup, which includes a playable demo of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, a demo of Final Fantasy Resonance, and multiple photo spots. As pointed out by Genki_JPN, the website also lists both Kingdom Hearts 4 and the Kingdom Hearts 1-3 Collection, but only under the trailer lineup. Based on what’s happened with Kingdom Hearts 4 at previous Tokyo Game Show events, this likely just means that the Square Enix booth will feature the D23 trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 and not something new. Kingdom Hearts 3 did get some TGS trailers during the lead-up to its release, but series creator Tetsuya Nomura has already made it clear not to get our hopes up. Of course, there’s a chance that Kingdom Hearts 4 does show up and make my day, but it’s a very very slim one. Nomura recently took part in an interview with Famitsu, where he confirmed that there will be a bit of a break before we get anything new on Kingdom Hearts 4. Nomura was directly asked about anything appearing at Tokyo Game Show, and said that the team is currently focusing on the game’s final development stage. AKA, we're not going to be there. With all that in mind, you should go into Tokyo Game Show expecting nothing from Kingdom Hearts as a whole. Square Enix is clearly going to put all of its energy into Revelation and Resonance for this showcase, so I would leave your excitement until The Game Awards at the very earliest.
