Keanu Reeves is negotiating to star in a crime thriller movie remake that would involve Sylvester Stallone and James Wan. There have been so many beloved Keanu Reeves movies that there is always immense interest in his next role. Now, it appears that the actor could be involved in an upcoming project that has the potential to be even more exciting than many of his other anticipated projects. That is the case because he is in talks to headline a new version of an acclaimed international thriller. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Reeves is in talks to star in Paramount Pictures’ reimagining of the 2019 Korean film The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. If the deal closes, he would be joining one other confirmed cast member, Don Lee, who is also known as Ma Dong-seok. Lee starred in the original film and is set to reprise his role in the new version. The project is set to be directed by James Wan, who is also coproducing the movie alongside Michael Clear and Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster Productions. The film's other producers include Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller for Balboa Productions, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, B&C Group's Chris S. Lee, and the CEO of BA Entertainment, Jang Won-seok. Work on The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil remake had been ongoing for some time before word of Reeves' potential involvement surfaced. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first script for the reimagining was penned by Shay Hatten, who worked on 2026's Resident Evil, and Brian Helgeland, whose credits include A Knight’s Tale and L.A. Confidential. The most recent draft of the script was written by Eric Pearson, who is known for Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four: First Steps. Originally released in May 2019, The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil is a South Korean action crime drama that became a hit. Widely regarded as one of Don Lee's best movies, the film focuses on a police officer and crime boss who team up to take down a threat that forces them to put aside their differences: a ruthless serial killer. Praised by critics and viewers alike, The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil currently holds a near-perfect 97% Tomatometer score from critics and a 94% Popcornmeter from users. Given the quality of its source material, its powerhouse production team, and the involvement of Keanu Reeves and Lee, there is every reason to think that the remake could become a hit like James Wan's many successful movies.
